History Tours
The Myrtle Beach Military History Trolley Tour and Catered Reception
What is now The Market Common, was once an important military base during WWII and later during the Cold War, Vietnam, and Desert Storm. Tour-takers will board the trolley for a one-hour narrated tour around the Market Common District learning about the history of the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, and the Myrtle Beach Army Airfield during WWII which also housed a German POW camp. That will be accompanied by a catered reception at Tupelo Honey where they will meet a historical figure who was part of the base’s history. Now in its fourth season, this tour was recognized in 2019 by the Horry County Board of Architecture Review and Historic Preservation.
The Myrtle Beach History, Movies and Music Trolley Tour
Guests will board the trolley for a two-hour narrated tour that will take them from The Market Common on a ride around Myrtle Beach, making stops that include the South Carolina Hall of Fame and Charlie’s Place Historic Site. While aboard, they will hear about Myrtle Beach’s coming of age in the mid-twentieth century to present day, the movies that were made or premiered there, and the role music played in its local history.
The Early Myrtle Beach and The War Years Trolley Tour
The trolley will take guests for a two-hour narrated tour that will carry them from The Market Common to Myrtle Beach’s oldest districts, making stops at Pine Lakes Country Club and the Historic Myrtle Beach Colored School Museum. While aboard, they will hear about Myrtle Beach’s earliest years and what it was like during WWII, 1941-1945, with U-boat threats off the coast and the arrival of German POWs.
